History of Region V Teams[edit]

Region V, also known as the Southeast Houston Region, is home to some of the most prolific schools in Texas Academic Decathlon History. While Deer Park was the first team in the region to win a state championship in 1989, the region had been dominated by Dobie in the large school category until it's disbanding in 2004 (was reinstated in 2007) and Friendswood in the medium school category. Since then, Pearland has become the region leader, and Seven Lakes defeated Friendswood for the first time in school history in 2008. Region V also had the Medium school and Large school champions in 2008, with Seven Lakes (now moved to Region VII) winning Medium, and Pearland winning Large. In 2009, Pearland again won state, with Dobie and Friendswood finishing in the top 5 of Large and Medium, respectively. In 2010, Dobie came out of regionals with their first regional championship since 2003 and was number one going into state with a score of 45,590. Pearland placed second and 8th overall in Large state (43,045) while Friendswood was second in medium (42,177). At state, Dobie dropped to third (46,093), while Pearland climbed to fifth (45,207) and Friendswood (43,906) finished second at Medium.
