Salutations! My name is Gwendolynn Cheney, and I'm a decathlete with IDEA Homeschool. Currently I am a junior and have competed in AcaDeca for the past three years. Sophomore year, I was a team captain for our Anchorage study group. I, along with fellow captain Hannah Klemm, led a group of Anchorage decathletes to IDEA Team 1 and ultimately the 2023 Nationals in Frisco, Texas. Junior year, I switched to the MatSu study group and continued leading the team to success alongside my superstar co-captains. That same year, I also achieved the highest score in Alaska (out of all divisions) at both district and state. Some of my highest scores are consistently in Economics and Social Science, although I also enjoy Math and Essay.

After high school, I am currently planning to study economics and/or statistics. I am also a lifelong figure skater, and hope to skate professionally once I'm done with school.

Scores[edit]

2024 State[edit]

Technology and Humanity

Although my objectives dropped a bit after district (thank you, mid-winter burnout!), I was still quite happy with the scores I posted. Notably, I was a mere 13 points away from breaking the all-time IDEA school record, which will haunt me for a good long time.

2023 Nationals[edit]

The American Revolution and the New Nation

My scores saw overall improvement from state just two months prior, especially considering that Nationals tests seem to be much harder than prior rounds. This was certainly the most enjoyable AcaDeca comp, mostly because of all my awesome teammates (I know you're lurking! Thank you guys!)

2023 State[edit]

2023 District/Scrimmage[edit]

2022 State[edit]

Water: A Most Essential Resource

This year was online, with the IDEA team testing virtually (but still in the same room as a team). I still didn't read a good chunk of the material. Quite frankly, I have no idea what I was thinking.

2022 District/Scrimmage[edit]

Water: A Most Essential Resource

I somehow achieved the top spot on IDEA team 2, which is shocking, because the only thing I actually read was the literature. Not only that, I posted a literature score I haven't been able to surpass in three years of trying. Overall, I'm still confused at what even happened here.
