St. Johns High School, in St. Johns, AZ., is a 2A public school, competing in Arizona Region I Academic Decathlon. The current coaches are Kirsten Odom, and Tawnya Wood. Past coaches have included Sylvia Udall, former Arizona Academic Decathlon Association Executive Director.
Past & Present Performance
For 23 years from 1987 to 2009, St. Johns High School placed first in their region with an average of little to no competition. The closest win in Region I history was in 2005, when Scottsdale Christian Academy was roughly 500 points behind. Before 2010, the decathletes from St. Johns perennially performed well in the overall state competition, consistently placing in the top ten. For 23 years, St. Johns took first in the 1A-3A State standings.
St. Johns won the first Small School E-Nationals in 2006 and represented Arizona in the competition every year from 2006 to 2013.
For several years, Kingman seemed to have "dethroned" St.Johns and won regional competition from 2013 to 2017. Under new leadership and re inspired, St.Johns won 2018 regional competition.
