Top State Scores on School Pages
Thanks for all of your contributions. You are awesome!
I am just not sure about one thing: the future of the "top state scores" sections on school pages, especially if we're going to see more and more of them. We already have a mild problem with outdated statements / records on this wiki, which is why we encourage everyone to "avoid statements that will date quickly" under DDSIC:Guidelines#Content. Will you or someone else definitely come back and update these lists after state every single year? Do you want to put a note at the top saying the records are "as of 2013" or something?
I'm not saying it needs to change, especially because I'm guilty of doing similar things. Just my two cents. Madcap (talk) 04:33, 13 March 2013 (UTC) Madcap
I definitely do plan on doing so, for both Liberty and Heritage. I originally planned only to do Liberty, but, due to the facts that Heritage is so new and that I've been talking with one of their Decathletes, I've decided to do the same for them. Both sets of scores should be available to me in the future, so that shouldn't be a problem. Of course, I do see where you're coming from--who knows if I'll even be alive a year from now? So I guess for now I'll just put "as of 2013", and, in the future, if anyone realises that the scores haven't been updated for some odd reason, someone else can come along and do it or just look at the records with the knowledge that they're outdated. Sorry for breaking the website
I don't understand why SSL/SNI is so broken with this setup, and I'm having a hell of a time troubleshooting it/fighting possible caching. I will stay away from SSL for acadecscores until I feel brave/stupid enough to try it again. So everything should be back to normal. I have a feeling this is around Nationals time - hopefully I didn't break the scores website for too many people. gil (talk) 01:26, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
I didn't notice anything broken -- no worries, and thanks for everything you do! :) TinDefacto (talk) 01:33, 25 April 2016 (UTC)
Alaska 2015 Regionals Mixup
I apologize for messing up the format with the edit, I had initally planned to edit it later but I was losing signal in the mountain range. Lathrop Chris Benshoof and I had talked about it ( after I had asked why Mitchell was put on team 2 despite having a top score at Regionals). He distinctly remembers that Mitchell got 4th, which was particularly shocking due to him winning the previous year. This goes along with the fact that he was moved to team 2 for 2015 state, rather then being on the main team. We haven't been able to find any regionals scores from that competition, but we're fairly certain of the order. - Kyle VanHatten
Hey Kyle -- thanks for the explanation; I hadn't realized it was you that made that edit! That said, since that original data was put in by one of the West Valley coaches, and he had all the data from the competition, I'm more inclined to trust his edits. It certainly is possible that he incorrectly entered the data, but was the fourth-place winner even announced at that competition? TinDefacto (talk) 14:22, 25 February 2019 (UTC)
Murphy D.
I'm not certain as to which is correct anymore, considering the fact that the coach Karina uses both herself in her blogs. The one I was mentally referring to was http://jdhsacadeca.blogspot.com/ , which capitalizes the G. However, the other site also spells it with a lowercase G https://jdhs.juneauschools.org/activities-athletics-f7c1adb1/activities-information-2fb17892/academic-decathlon-33067c49. - Kyle VanHatten
Hmm, I think that first site was probably just a misspelling based on the fact that a lot of Spanish last names are "del ___", like "del Rio" or "de la Garza". "Delgado" is just a word that means "thin", though, and is a common last name, whereas "del Gado" has no meaning, so I'm like 99% sure the G is supposed to be lowercase. :P TinDefacto (talk) 16:55, 3 March 2019 (UTC)
Update: I checked the pamphlet that AAD gave out for the awards banquet, and in the list of all the competitor's names, it lists him officially as "Murphy DelGado" on Juneau's second team.
