Texas Academic Decathlon has held an annual Academic Octathlon competition that takes place in various locations across the state at the end of April, since at least 1997. The competition, open only to high school freshmen and sophomores, differs from Decathlon in that it consists of the seven objective tests as well as the Essay portion while excluding Speech and Interview. Texas Academic Decathlon produces the tests used.
