Starting in 2020, Texas has divided its state competition by score.
From 2020 to 2023, the top 35 highest-scoring Large and Medium teams plus the top 5 small school teams competed in San Antonio, and the next 35 highest-scoring Large and Medium teams and the next 5 small school teams competed in Frisco.
From 2024 onward, the top 30 highest-scoring Large and Medium teams plus the top 10 Small teams have competed in San Antonio, with the remaining 40 qualifying Large and Medium teams competing in Frisco.
