Nationals/1987

The sixth annual United States Academic Decathlon National Finals was held April 24-27 in Irving, Texas, and was the first Nationals competition to be held outside of California. Decades later, the competition remains notable both for having the largest-ever margin of victory for the winning team (as of 2024) as well as for the record-setting performance of individual champion David Ross Florey of Marshall (California), which was to remain the highest-ever Varsity score for 25 years until Granada Hills Charter's Jimmy Wu's performance at Nationals in 2012.
